For Customers

  • The Trusted Teacher connects families with local credentialed teachers who are interested in earning extra money by helping with everyday needs. That might include tutoring, pet care, yard work, household projects, errands, event help, and more.

  • You can post tutoring and educational help, pet care, household projects, yard and outdoor work, tech help, errands, event help, seasonal projects, and other everyday tasks. Jobs must be safe, legal, and appropriate.

  • Tell us what you need, when you need it, where you are located, and what you are offering to pay. Once your job is approved, it will appear on our Available Jobs board for interested teachers.

  • Teachers who express interest must have their Virginia teaching credential confirmed by The Trusted Teacher before we connect you.

  • No. A teacher expressing interest does not automatically create a match. You can decide whether you want to move forward with the teacher before the connection is completed.

  • You decide how much you want to offer the teacher. When you are matched with a teacher, an additional 18% is charged. This consists of a 15% matching fee for The Trusted Teacher and a 3% payment processing fee. The teacher receives the full amount you offered for the job.

  • The agreement for the work is between you and the teacher. The Trusted Teacher provides the marketplace and helps make the connection, but is not a party to the agreement between you and the teacher and does not perform or supervise the work. Please see our Terms of Service for the complete terms, responsibilities, and limitations of liability.

  • During our MVP pilot, we will refund the matching and payment processing fees if the matched job does not take place. If you have a problem with a match, contact us so we can help.

  • You and the teacher arrange payment for the job directly using a payment method you both agree on such as Paypal, Venmo, Apple Pay, etc. The default payment is cash. The Trusted Teacher fee is paid separately through The Trusted Teacher.

  • Absolutely. Tips are completely optional and can be paid directly to the teacher. The Trusted Teacher does not take a percentage of tips.

  • You can try changing the date or time, making the schedule more flexible, or increasing the amount you are offering. We are also working on making it easier to update and repost jobs that do not receive interest.

  • The Trusted Teacher does not employ the teacher, and the teacher is not your household employee simply because you found them through The Trusted Teacher. However, tax obligations can depend on the nature of the work, how much you pay someone, and the circumstances of the working relationship. Customers are responsible for determining whether any tax reporting or withholding requirements apply to their particular situation. The Trusted Teacher does not provide tax advice.

  • If The Trusted Teacher introduces you to a teacher, we ask that jobs with that teacher continue to be arranged through The Trusted Teacher for 24 months after the introduction. This helps support the service that made the connection possible. Please see our Terms of Service for the complete details of this policy.

For Teachers

  • Our initial pilot is designed for teachers whose Virginia educator credential can be confirmed.

  • No. If you see a job that interests you, click I'm Interested. We will collect the necessary information and confirm your teaching credential as part of the process.

  • Joining allows us to confirm your teaching credential before you express interest in a job. This can make future matches faster. It will also allow us to let you know about new opportunities that fit your interests and location.

  • No. You decide which opportunities interest you. There is no obligation to accept a job simply because you joined The Trusted Teacher.

  • No. The Trusted Teacher does not charge teachers a matching fee. You receive the full amount the customer offered for the job.

  • 100%. If a job is offered foe $100, you receive $100. The customer pays $118 including $100 to you and $18 to The Trusted Teacher.

  • No. Teachers are not employees of The Trusted Teacher and will not receive a W-2 from us. Money you earn from customers may be taxable income, and you are responsible for keeping appropriate records and reporting your income as required by law. Depending on how payments are made and applicable tax rules, you may receive a tax form from a payment provider or another party. The Trusted Teacher does not provide tax advice.escription

  • Yes. Customers may choose to tip you, but tips are always optional. Tips are paid directly to you, and The Trusted Teacher does not take a percentage of them.

  • Yes. When you join, you can tell us the types of opportunities you would like to hear about, your ZIP code, and how far you are generally willing to travel.

  • The Trusted Teacher checks your educator credential using Virginia's official educator license information. Credential confirmation means we have confirmed your teaching credential. It should not be interpreted as a background check, identity verification, or endorsement of a teacher.

  • The agreement for each job is directly between you and the customer. The Trusted Teacher helps make the connection but is not your employer, does not supervise your work, and is not a party to your agreement with the customer. You and the customer are responsible for agreeing on the work, payment, timing, and other job details.

  • You should first communicate directly with the customer when appropriate. The Trusted Teacher may help with communication or marketplace issues, but we do not guarantee the work, payment, conduct, safety, or outcome of a job. Our Terms of Service contain the complete rules and limitations that apply.

  • If you meet a customer through The Trusted Teacher, we ask that jobs with that customer continue to be arranged through The Trusted Teacher for 24 months after the introduction. Accepting work directly in order to avoid The Trusted Teacher's matching process or fees is not permitted during that period. Please see our Terms of Service for the complete details of this policy.
